You walk into the Coop, looking for the pears I am about to proselytize to you. You find them in the cooler, sitting round-bellied and humble in their basket like Buddha fruits. When you reach for the pear that calls your name, you pause for a moment, thanking your lucky stars that you live in Georgia. I know this because I shared that moment with my own pear before I hacked it into pieces to sample for this blog post.

You might be tempted to judge the pears. ABOVE ALL ELSE, DO NOT JUDGE THE PEARS! Their skins are lightly freckled in some cases, but this isn't a beauty contest, and what's inside actually does count. Their juiciness and honey-sweet taste lit up the eyes of other Coopers here, and lord knows I don't dote on bad fruit. Plus, these are local pears from Red Clay Dog farms and they are only $2.25 per pound. Pretty sweet.

I love food blogs, particularly gluten free ones, and Elana's Pantry is one of my favorites. Some nights, instead of reading Marx and Weber, I scan food blogs for new recipes--don't tell my advisors. Here is a marvelous recipe for pear clafoutis, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did:

  1. I am partial to the interesting geometric patterns visible in cross-sections of pears. It reminds me of the Romanesco Broccoli we had last fall and I hope we have again! It will make for great bloggingfodder, especially with a closet blogophile like yourself on the job :P

  2. Dear Mr. E, I would love to have some freaky shaped food to photograph and blog about! And I am fully out of the closet about my locavorous blogophilia.
